Reed’s Refuge programs combine creative expression, academic enrichment, mentorship, leadership and real-world exposure. Offerings vary by season and funding, but every program is designed to help young people discover their strengths, practice new skills and build a stronger vision for their future.
Arts & Media
An advanced, project-based experience that brings youth together across music production, podcasting, interviewing, film and media to create a final multimedia production. Participants build on prior skills, take on production roles and work as a collaborative creative team.

Youth learn the creative and technical sides of recording, from songwriting and vocal performance to beat-making, session workflow, recording, editing and mixing. The focus is both artistic expression and exposure to real industry practices.

Participants develop skills in interviewing, storytelling, camera operation, photography, editing, production planning and digital media. Advanced projects may include multi-camera production, field work, aerial/drone storytelling and final media releases.

A signature youth violence-prevention and positive-choice initiative launched in 2012. Safe City uses creativity, conversation, youth voice and community engagement to encourage leadership, conflict prevention and safer neighborhoods.
