Reed’s Refuge Center is led by people who believe deeply in the potential of young people and in the responsibility to build opportunities that last. Our founders, board, staff, instructors and community partners bring experience across education, the arts, youth development, business, media and community service.
CO-FOUNDER
Frederick Reed
Frederick Reed grew up in Wilmington’s Riverside projects. He knows how much it matters for a young person to have someone who sees their potential and gives them a place to grow. A father of nine, Frederick is a longtime youth advocate, creative entrepreneur, music professional and community leader.
His experience in education, music production, mentorship and program development has helped shape Reed’s Refuge Center into a place where young people can discover their gifts, build confidence and see possibilities for their future.
CO-FOUNDER
Cora Reed
Cora Reed is a mother of nine whose commitment to children extends far beyond her own family. An experienced early childhood educator and family services leader, she has spent decades creating welcoming, dependable spaces for children to learn and thrive.
Her care for young people and families helped lay the foundation for Reed’s Refuge Center and continues to guide its work as a place where young people and families can thrive.
For Frederick and Cora, Reed’s Refuge has always been personal. They have raised nine children while opening their doors and hearts to many more across the community. To the young people who know them, they are more than organizational leaders: they are trusted adults who show up, listen, encourage and make the refuge feel like family.
