Reed’s Refuge purchased its building in 2020. The Developmental Center project is about adapting that permanent Wilmington home for more kinds of learning, performance and family support.
A building purchased, a center in development
The building purchase and the completion of the planned spaces are separate milestones. The organization’s history records the purchase in 2020 and further development in 2022. An August 4, 2026 DelawareBlack profile reported construction underway and described plans for classrooms, technology labs, arts education, media production and a black box theater. That report is a dated account of the project. The architectural image above is a proposed rendering; it does not show a completed facility.
The spaces in the plan
The Developmental Center plan describes a black box theater; multimedia and production studios; a library and computer lab; a S.T.R.E.A.M. lab; expanded classrooms and dance spaces; and a culinary and life-skills area. Workforce and entrepreneurship areas, private family and wellness rooms, and conference and training space complete the vision. These spaces would support activities already central to the mission, such as academic enrichment, recording, dance, Cooking Without a Stove and mentoring. They are planned or developing facilities, with services and opening arrangements dependent on the project’s confirmed progress.

Programs, performances and community gatherings inform the spaces planned for the Developmental Center.
Discuss a role in the project
Completing the center involves facilities work, equipment and partnerships as well as financial support. Organizations and individuals interested in contributing professional services, technology, program expertise or a capital gift can speak with the Reed’s Refuge team about current priorities. The Developmental Center page explains the planned spaces and ways to make contact. For the latest construction update, funding position and opening plans, contact the team directly.
